Benedictine University Benedictine University was founded in 1887 in Chicago as St. Procopius College and relocated to Lisle in 1901. We were renamed Illinois Benedictine College in 1971. In response to community needs, we added graduate, doctorate and adult learner programs. We became Benedictine University in 1996. Today, the University remains committed to providing a high-quality, catholic, liberal arts education for men and women.
